Outside of the classroom, Green Dot schools provide a rich array of after-school programs and services for students so that they have safe, educational and enjoyable opportunities after the bell rings. Additionally, Green Dot strongly believes in community empowerment. Schools regularly organize events that bring together students, parents, educators and political leaders to advocate for active civic engagement and unity. Since 1999, Green Dot has been a celebrated leader in closing discrepancies in access, to high-quality educational opportunities regardless of race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status.


Community Engagement Department has a part-time opening for our Community Organizing and Recruitment team. We are looking to expand our community with a new school in the city of Compton, as well as help with community outreach in and around the current areas served by Green Dot (including but not limited to those of both South LA and East LA, and in zip code 90001). All organizers will be responsible for increasing outreach and engagement within the African-American community. The position is part-time and involves social interaction and walking. All outreach is done in teams.

This position will be approximately 20 hours per week, on the following schedule:

Monday to Thursday: 3:30 - 7:00pm

Saturday: 10:00am - 2:00pm

Sundays (some): 5 or 6 a year



  • Organizers will be assisting with outreach activities, including but not limited to, phone banking, community canvassing, attending meetings
  • Organizers should be able to complete assigned tasks and projects in a timely and effective manner, able to handle a variety of tasks, and should be able to provide clean, accurate reporting of information for managers
  • Must be able to provide own transportation (mileage for canvassing/door-knocking will be reimbursed)



  • At least 18 years old
  • Outgoing, approachable, and social
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of community organizing, outreach and advocacy, grassroots marketing and/or political campaigns is a plus
  • Dependability, humility, sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
  • Must be able to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer
