Operation Jump Start is a non profit organization that has served the Long Beach community for over 22 years. Our mission to help low resourced, high potential first generation students get in, stay in, and graduate from a four year college. We do this by providing academic and socioemotional support, mentoring, and exposure to a broader world. The VISTA will implement projects including, but not limited to, conducting research that will help determine future programming, develop resource guides as it relates to college success, enter and track student data, and curate content for online and print publications. We are looking for a VISTA that is comfortable dealing with ambiguity, is very positive, take initiative and also has excellent interpersonal skills. The benefit to becoming a VISTA through Operation Jump Start is knowing your contributions matter. By applying for this project, you will help move our three year strategic plan of growing our organization by 600 percent. The work of a VISTA is critical to our success of serving more youth in Los Angeles County. You will learn how to work with a vibrant, dynamic team. You will also learn that while failure is inevitable, it’s how we move forward as a team that helps us become successful. Last, but not least, you will have access to attend various training on college access and success throughout Los Angeles. The proposed project goals for this placement are to 1. increase the number of low-income youth of color who go to and graduate from college and 2. ensure at least 90 percent of College Success Participants receive their BA degree within 6 years of college entrance. This post is a 1 year assignment, starting on November 20th, 2017. To get more information, please email [email protected] or call the OJS Office 562.988.2131.
