SIJCC is a leading center for education, arts and culture on LA’s east side. We have been transforming Jewish life in Los Angeles for over six decades through a successful program model that is poised for growth. People are attracted to our accessible and inclusive programming and engage with our community through a variety of cultural and educational offerings from breathwork, high holy day and ritual experiences, arts exhibitions and hootenannies. Over 4000 people participate in programming on our campus each year. The SIJCC’s signature programs currently include a thriving early childhood center serving children ages 2-5; a rapidly growing alternative Sunday school called the Jewish Learning Center (JLC) for students in grades K-8; East Side Jews, a collective of young adults who celebrate unique twists on holidays, Shabbat, and pop-up events throughout the year; and engaging arts and cultural programming for all ages.

The Opportunity
SIJCC seeks a visionary and strategic leader to take the helm as its next Executive Director. The ideal candidate for this role has demonstrated capacity and is poised to envision and lead SIJCC through its next major stage of growth. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer and public face of SIJCC, reporting directly to the Board of Directors and representing the organization in the broader community. As such, this individual possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and superior communication skills. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing programs, finances and fund development for SIJCC, as well as supporting and managing directors of departments, building partnerships and growing the Center’s presence.

Key Responsibilities:
The Executive Director, in partnership with the Board, is responsible for establishing and guiding the vision, Jewish voice and strategic planning for SIJCC. The Director sets the tone for the organization and works with the leadership team to ensure the Center’s effectiveness and growth.

The Director is responsible for bringing the vision of SIJCC alive by sustaining core programs and envisioning new directions for the organization. The Director leads the campus master planning process, working with the board and community to identify, prioritize and implement projects in support of the Center’s campus vision.

The Executive Director is responsible for developing, in partnership with the board, and executing on a successful fund development strategy to support SIJCC’s next stage of growth. The Director works closely with the board and the Development Director to steward existing supporters, increase current levels of both giving and earned income, and identify new funding sources. This individual cultivates strategic relationships within and outside of the core SIJCC community and leads the organization’s capital campaign.

Public Relations
The Executive Director promotes SIJCC’s mission and vision through a visible presence in the community. The Director networks and builds relationships with community partners and local organizations. This individual ensures effective, culturally-sensitive use of both internal and external communication to keep all stakeholders connected, informed, and up-to-date on SIJCC related matters. The Director is the public face of SIJCC, representing the organization to constituents, stakeholders, and the broader community.

The Executive Director establishes the professional culture of the organization, hiring, supporting and evaluating all directors and overseeing the human resources policies and practices for SIJCC’s employees. The Director is the primary liaison to SIJCC’s legal support team and sits at the negotiating table for the Collective Bargaining Agreement that governs our early childhood teaching team.

The Executive Director is responsible for the financial health and well-being of SIJCC. This individual sets organizational and budgetary priorities aligned with the mission and vision of SIJCC.
The Director oversees the annual operating budget, ensures the integrity of reserve funds, implements proper financial controls, oversees the annual audit and plans for the future.

Key Qualifications:

  • Commitment to and belief in the mission and vision of SIJCC
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to articulate a clear and compelling vision and lead others to implement it
  • Proven track record of effective leadership; at least five years of leadership experience with management responsibility; board experience preferred
  • Experience identifying sources of funding from foundations, corporations, investors, and/or individual donors, and demonstrated success securing those resources through relationship building
  • At least ten years of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor Degree required; master degree or continued learning preferred
