Title: Chief Program Officer (CPO)

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Function:

The Chief Program Officer (CPO) will serve as a member of the executive managementteam. In collaboration with the CEO, and support from the Executive Director/Founder, the CPO will guide and implement the strategic programmatic vision of the organization. The CPO will direct delivery of programs in accordance with AWBW’s goals and objectives; evaluate effectiveness of programs; and provide ongoing feedback to staff, management and board. The CPO will provide mentoring, guidance, supervision and professional development to staff, and be rooted in developments in trauma informed care principles and other related trends relevant to AWBW’s work.

Major Responsibilities:

Program Oversight

In coordination with the executive and program teams, the CPO plays a key role in the overall development, strategic planning, delivery and management of AWBW’s healing arts programs. Participates in the budget development process; deepens evaluation procedures; and identifies and assesses new program opportunities, development priorities and strategies. Is an active partner in developing funding priorities, goals and objectives in order for funding requests to align with strategic directions and to secure sufficient resources for implementation.

Program Management

In collaboration with program staff drives all activities necessary to maintain and build AWBW’s programs, including leadership training, workshops, leaders’ support and hosted trainings. Supports, motivates and inspires staff to work collaboratively and cross-departmentally toward vision and goals. Identifies leadership and professional development opportunities for staff. Determines staffing plans to achieve program goals and objectives and oversees hiring decisions for new program staff.

Curriculum and Communications

Oversees the development, coordination and integration of AWBW’s curriculum and communications, including program-related content for AWBW’s Board and supporters. Supports program staff to develop materials, such as web content, Leader curriculum highlights and innovations. Establishes web tools, including updating program-related content and creation of videos for deepened training experience.

Outreach

Works with executive team and program staff to determine program outreach goals and drives outreach efforts to establish relationships with new program partners. Supports program-related exhibitions and publications. Ensures effective follow-up on training inquiries. Oversees general networking, conference presentations, and new partner opportunities.

Program Staff Supervision/Training

Directly supervises staff and builds their skills and confidence so they can mentor, encourage and motivate program partners. Works with staff to balance workload and efforts. Establishes annual program, departmental and staff goals and objectives and track results. Ensures the delivery of qualitative and quantitative goals and outcomes of programs and services. Cultivates staff awareness of and progress toward AWBW’s program goals and builds proactive focus on achieving grant-funded program goals.

Program Records and Evaluation

Oversees maintenance and evolution of program evaluation and records, keeping up-to-date with best practices. Ensures implementation of program evaluation and reports regularly to Chief Executive Officer regarding program status and progress toward strategic and annual goals. Coordinates and analyzes the appropriate data to inform the programmatic decision-making process; ensure consistency with grant requirements; and maximize the impact of art to help create change on personal, family and community levels.

Organizational Effectiveness/ General Work

Performs job function in a manner that advances the organization’s mission and strategic goals and is consistent with its values. Fosters internal collaboration through shared teamwork. Understands that the success of the organization is dependent on all employees working together. Performs other duties as assigned by CEO dependent on organizational needs and employee skills.

Qualifications:

A minimum of eight years leadership experience in a nonprofit organization ideally with the populations and/or services that are the focus of AWBW’s work. Passion for AWBW’s mission and purpose and an ability to communicate this passion to others. Experience managing a high-performing team. Demonstrated experience organizing, implementing, managing, budgeting and evaluating programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong relationship builder with the ability to represent the organization externally. Commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness and empowerment. Experience training groups as well as an arts background a plus.

Terms:

This is full-time exempt position that provides full benefits as outlined in the AWBW Personnel Policy. Some travel, weekend and evening events required.
