The Executive Director of Media and Digital News Content develops and implements media and digital content strategies that align with the strategic direction and priorities for the university. Oversees a proactive media relations effort by developing and executing a strategic editorial calendar for media campaigns, press conferences, digital news, advocacy social media campaigns, Inside CSULB, and [email protected] Writes, edits, pitches, and distributes press advisories, and news releases. Responds to media queries and routine contacts with media representatives. Responds to media requests for interviews, expert contacts, broll, and photos as necessary. Cultivates and expands university relationships with media, bloggers, and others who influence the reputation of the university. Cultivates partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to leverage opportunities to produce positive media outcomes on behalf of the university. Oversees, refreshes, and maintains the division's website.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proven track record placing major stories in online and print newspapers, magazines, wire services, blogs, and broadcast media. Working knowledge of Cision and Associated Press Style Guidelines. Proven ability to establish and execute communications strategies for internal and external audiences. Exceptional writing skills and the ability to direct communications vehicles to the appropriate audiences. Ability to respond to crises and natural disasters. Working knowledge of digital publications development.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field and ten years of related experience. Higher education experience preferred.
Conflict of Interest:
The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
