Hours: Up to 30 hours per week
Hourly Rate: 16.00-17.50

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Educational Services Manager, the Educational Services Coordinator will provide key support in the development of academic programming, coordination of academic assessments and the fulfillment of administrative duties including the preparation of monthly reports and oversight of the department library and incentive program. The ESC will work closely with the ESM to support the oversight, facilitation and administration of all areas of the department including department staff, program efficiency, and internal and external communications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with oversight of department classes and activities
  • Provides lead support in the coordination, implementation and reporting of computerized academic assessment
  • Assists with enrollment changes as needed to address members’ academic needs or success
  • Communicates with parents and teachers regarding member’s academic progress
  • Oversees organization and maintenance of the APCH Library utilizing computerized organization system
  • Provides administrative assistance for the implementation of professional development, fieldtrips, etc.
  • Substitutes for instructors as needed
  • Oversees attendance tracking by all department staff using the KidTrax database
  • Prepares monthly attendance reports
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the department strategic plan
  • Coordinates volunteer and intern support within the department
  • Coordinates and oversees the implementation of the Center Buck/APCH Store incentive program
  • Secures supplies for the APCH Store incentive program and for the department overall as approved by ESM
  • Coordinates and oversees the distribution of free books to members
  • Supervises groups of students as assigned
  • Attends all required professional development
  • Mentors through actions and behavior in observing dress code, language and team support
  • Assists in maintaining a visually inspiring, fun, clean, and orderly environment that is conducive to learning
  • Adheres to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times
  • Other duties may be assigned

Education/Training/Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Education or Humanities preferred or equivalent experience
  • 2 years minimum experience in educational setting
  • Minimum of 2 years working with at-risk youth
     

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, standing, required on daily basis
  • Lift up to 20 pounds regularly
  • Able to communicate and convey accurate information
  • Use of hands for clerical functions (data entry, phones, filing)
