Reports to: Facilities Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt Up to 40 hours per week

Rate: $12.00-$14.00

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

SUMMARY

This position will complete the daily/weekly/quarterly janitorial services with some maintenance and event set- up/break down with support of another Facilities staff member.

This position’s usual schedule will be Monday through Friday 10:30 am to 7:00 pm but the Facilities Manager may re-arrange the schedule during certain periods or events to work evenings and/or weekends.

Essential Functions and responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values all times
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedure
  • Dust, wipe, sweep, mop or vacuum floors
  • Empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers
  • Keep bathrooms fully stocked of essentials
  • Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, clean blinds, launder cleaning rags and mops
  • Track and report to Supervisor cleaning product shortage
  • Track and replace Air and Water Filters throughout both centers
  • Track and cure graffiti
  • Maintain grounds and foliage trimmed and watered
  • Donation and/or purchases pick up
  • Available to work major events outside of normal work schedule.
     

Non Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Assist in minor repairs and maintenance work (unclog sink drains, fix leaky faucets, etc)
  • Assist in event set-up and break-down
  • All other duties as requested

Education/Training/Experience

  • 3-5 years janitorial and maintenance
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods required
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other safety compliance guidelines
  • High School diploma or equivalent
     

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in chaotic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, standing required on daily basis
  • Lift up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Able to communicate and convey accurate information
