Job Title: Security, Safety & Hospitality Associate

Department: Operations

Reports to: Security, Safety & Hospitality Supervisor

FLSA Status/Hours: Up to 15 hours per week

Pay Rate: 12.00-15.00 DOE

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, fitness and health and wellness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active community members capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.

SUMMARY

The Part-Time Security, Safety & Hospitality Associate’s responsibility is to provide warm greetings and directions for members and visitors, and receiving functions (for deliveries). As the first contact for most members, staff and guests, the Security, Safety & Hospitality Associate functions as a key ambassador for APCH and is expected to provide welcome and exemplary customer service in accordance with our values and practices. S/he will also assist in controlling the entrances to our buildings and street crossings during business hours, evening and/or weekend events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an atmosphere in which all members, staff and visitors feel safe
  • Protect company’s property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment
  • Monitor and control access at building entrances and vehicle gates
  • Monitor and assist at street crossings during assigned hours
  • Welcome and assist visitors with directions and secure proper identification
  • Watch alarm systems or video cameras
  • Report unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the SS&H Supervisor
  • Maintain security records, logs and reports
  • Respond to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents and emergency medical incidents
  • Respond to alarms, emergency codes, and security related incidents
  • Perform First Aid or CPR
  • Assist staff with fire, security and disaster drills and other emergency building evacuations
  • Ensure the facility is opened and closed during specified hours
  • Ensure that all members and visitors sign in and out daily
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with members, parents and visitors
  • Maintain discretion regarding sensitive matters having to do with members
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff and members
  • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or directed by SS&H Supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned by SS&H Supervisor

Education/Training/Experience

  • 1-2 years proven work experience as a security guard or relevant position
  • Possess a current Guard Card
  • Experience working in a youth & community center preferred
  • High school degree
     

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Able to work in chaotic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
  • Walking, sitting, standing required on daily basis
  • Lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Able to communicate and convey accurate information
