This is a grant-funded position. Position will de-fund upon completion of the grant period (October, 2017). Agency is seeking renewal of funding and/or alternative funding sources to retain position.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
In compliance with a Legal Assistance for Victims grant from the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women, the Paralegal is responsible for assisting the Staff Attorney and Legal Program Advocate in providing family law and immigration legal services to clients in our emergency, transitional, and drop-in programs, as well as at Jenesse's Domestic Violence Clinic at the Inglewood Courthouse, and Jenesse's pro bono initiatives. The Paralegal reports to the Managing Staff Attorney and works closely with the Legal Program Advocates.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidate must have paralegal certification from an accredited school or program, or equivalent training and experience. Must be fluent in English and Spanish, and comfortable translating for others from Spanish to English and English to Spanish. Experience in processing USCIS application for humanitarian immigration relief (U-Visas, T-Visas, VAWA Petitions, and Battered Spouse Waivers) required. Experience in processing domestic violence protection orders and other family law pleadings required. Experience in providing trauma informed services preferred; special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in the domestic violence field. An ability to work in a collaborative environment is essential. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment are a must. Candidate must be willing to work with a diverse client population. Ability to attend and complete a 40-Hour Domestic Violence Certification course required.

TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Publisher, and Adobe, LexisNexis and/or Westlaw legal research services. Proficiency in using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. is a plus.
Must have paralegal certification, with an emphasis in family law, from an accredited school or program, or equivalent training and experience.
