Summary: Bicycle Transit Systems (Bike Transit) aims to be the global leader in bike share system implementation and operation. Leveraging over 25 years combined experience of our staff in sustainable transportation, Bike Transit brings a new approach to the planning, implementation and operation of bike share systems.

In partnership with Los Angeles Metro, Bike Transit has launched the Downtown Los Angeles Pilot Bike Share Program, Metro Bike, with approximately 61 stations and 700 bicycles. In 2017 we will be expanding to over 1,300 bicycles in Pasadena, Venice and The Port of Los Angeles. Future rapid expansion of up to 4,000 bikes bicycles is anticipated in the following years. Our mission is to make bike share a healthy, easy, accessible, and enjoyable way to get around Los Angeles.

We are seeking an Operations Supervisor based in our Port of Los Angeles office to lead a team on the maintenance and overall performance of Metro stations. Our stations are a critical part of our service and station reliability is of extremely high importance to us, and our pass holders. The Operations Supervisor will manage a team of Field Technicians and Mechanics to ensure that stations are fully functional in accordance with our service levels with strong focus on up-time and device functionality. The Operations Supervisor will collaborate with the Head Station Tech for more extensive station repairs.

The Operations Supervisor will collaborate with the Head Mechanic to oversee monthly and annual bike services and repairs, and with the Fleet & Facility Coordinator to ensure the warehouse and vehicles are maintained and safe. Additionally, this position will work closely with Dispatch to ensure that all stations are maintained and cleaned in accordance with our routine maintenance schedules and company standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead bike and station operations including rebalancing, bicycle maintenance, station maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Manage a staff of 3-5 Field Techs and Mechanics including scheduling, hiring, training.
  • Lead departmental communication by facilitating a weekly meeting and implementing effective tools for day to day, shift to shift communication.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly department meetings, ensure information is relayed to correct staff.
  • Provide and analyze reports on operational metrics.
  • Identify, develop and implement tools to build efficiency among field-based operations team; monitor effectiveness to ensure timely and productive workflows.
  • Maintain facilities, vehicles and equipment.
  • Receive ongoing training on programming, repair, and maintenance of bike share stations.
  • Ensure 24/7 station functionality and operability; repair, maintain stations as needed.
  • Provide complete service records for all work performed.
  • Overseeing small team performing training, scheduling, feedback.
  • Operating/maintaining sprinter van (cleaning and running).
  • Installation and removal of bike sharing station.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing teams, training staff, and optimizing procedures.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or, equivalent job-related experience.
  • Valid driver license and clean driving record.
  • Computer hardware, electronics and/or electrical experience required.
  • Comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.
  • Adaptability - the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and can deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Excitement and interest in bike sharing a plus.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in all work performed.
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, Google Applications, and the ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Technical and mechanical aptitude mandatory.
  • Ability to drive improvements in line with company standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Ability to adapt to changing roles.
  • Must have strong management, human relations and communication skills.
  • Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
  • Requires stooping, reaching, biking, and lifting 50+ pounds.
