826LA in Echo Park and Mar Vista are recruiting interns for our summer programs!

826LA is one of seven non-profit chapters across the country dedicated to helping students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills because we understand written communication is a key to future success.

We help students improve by making writing accessible and fun through our four main programs: tutoring, bookmaking field trips, in-school writing support and projects, and volunteer-created writing workshops -- all of which are completely free to families and teachers. Read more at

826LA in Mar Vista and 826LA in Echo Park are looking for summer interns to support our English Language Learners Camp! The camp inspires English-language learner students to become confident writers, enthusiastic readers, and strong communicators.

Applicants should be community-minded, interested in education and non-profits, and be open to learning and growing. Candidates who speak Spanish are highly encouraged to apply, as well as candidates whose second language is English. This is an unpaid position, with invaluable opportunities to learn student mentorship and small group management, and to shape your own summer experience.

Interns work directly with elementary-age students on pre-planned creative writing lessons. Interns also support 826LA staff with administrative work, communication with parents, and engagement with volunteers.

Interns may have the option of extending their term following a review. Office hours are Monday through Friday, roughly 9am to 6pm, but many programs and events take place evenings and weekends. Interns typically work during office hours, but schedules may vary to accommodate the availability and focus of interns and needs of the programs.

  • Commitment to a set schedule of a minimum of 15 hours a week for 3 months (availability 3 days per week preferred).
  • Course credit not a requirement, but satisfied here if needed.

  • Strong attention to detail and high level of organization
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Google Apps (Drive, Calendar, Gmail, etc.)
  • Desire to work in an organization with a strong spirit of social justice
  • Completion of a criminal background check, administered by 826LA
