Description

The Director, Marketing and Communications position is responsible for developing and executing MPTF’s messaging and marketing strategies that promote the charitable mission of the programs and services for the entertainment community as well as the fundraising efforts that are vital in support of that mission. This position works collaboratively with senior management to develop communication strategies targeted to the diverse constituency served by MPTF. The Director of Marketing and

Communications leads a staff in accordance with MPTF’s policies, procedures, standards and acts as the clearinghouse for all organizational messaging.

Essential Functions

  • In collaboration with MPTF Foundation staff and Board of Governor’s leadership, implements a new strategic branding/marketing campaign (Play Your Part) that supports growth of mission awareness and direct financial support.
  • Develops and implements marketing and communications tools that align with overall strategy of Play Your Part for programs and services.
  • Works closely with MPTF CEO/President in coordinating and implements organization-wide communications strategies for both internal and external audiences, including all corporate communications.
  • Works closely with Foundation team on all areas of fundraising and events in support of financial objectives and “sponsor” relationships.
  • Manages and provides oversight for creation of all printed materials and content development for all channels of digital distribution from website to social media platforms.
  • Works effectively with organization’s outside communications and marketing vendors and consultants and with MPTF Board members and volunteer
  • Committees dedicated to MPTF branding, marketing and fundraising activities.
  • Cultivates relationships with entertainment industry leaders and MPTF stakeholders and pursues mutually beneficial marketing/revenue opportunities, including event sponsors.
  • Develops and maintains consistent alliances with entertainment trade publications and digital platforms, including guild and union publication and studio employee and retiree newsletters to advance the messaging of the Play Your Part campaign.
  • Works closely with the CEO of the MPTF Foundation on the planning and implementation of the five-year plan leading up to the [email protected] celebration in 2021; participates in senior leadership activities and committees.
  • Develops and manages strategic planning for the department aligned with organization’s short- and long-term goals and prepares departmental policies and procedures and standards of work performance.
  • Develops and monitors annual marketing and communications operating budget aligned with goals and objectives of the organization and the Play Your Part campaign.
  • Directs and manages staff, involving direct and indirect responsibilities for interviewing, selection, orientation, performance evaluations, and initiates personnel actions, such as disciplinary actions and terminations. Provides in- service and educational programs for staff.
  • Coordinates departmental activities and responsibilities with other departments, representing department at administrative meetings and supporting each department in achieving their program goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for continued professional development as well as contributing to the educational, supervisory, administrative and systems improvements and research efforts for MPTF.
     

Skills Required

  • Demonstrates the administrative and management skills necessary to organize and direct a comprehensive marketing/communications department and the staff involved
  • Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively with people in a variety of situations and to oversee all marketing/communications activities and production at MPTF
  • Knowledge of the entertainment industry and ability to represent MPTF within various levels of the entertainment industry.
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to communicate MPTF’s message on panels and other internal and external events
  • Strong relationship building skills applied internally and externally
  • Demonstrates the analytical skills necessary to evaluate, approve or recommend proposed changes in policy and procedure or staffing levels, as well as forecast departmental needs.
  • Ability to work in an automated environment, including strong technology skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and digital technology
  • Ability to foster and encourage diverse viewpoints and build consensus
  • Ability to establish policies, procedures, and standards for functions managed
  • Ability to execute business plans and budgets
  • Ability to communicate the values of the organization, handle confidential information, and exhibit strong interpersonal skills with both internal and external customers

Experience

Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, including three years of management experience in a not-for- profit environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism or related field required;
  • Master’s degree or post-graduate work in marketing or related field preferred.
     

Work Environment/Hours

A full-time exempt position working in the corporate office of MPTF as well as in other locations as needed; requires ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
