LA2050 is a community-guided initiative driving and tracking progress toward a shared vision for the future of Los Angeles. Our mission is to engage and activate Angelenos to shape the future of the region and make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live by the year 2050.

We do this through:

  • Researching and reporting on LA's trajectory and the solutions to place LA on a successful path forward

  • Highlighting the stories and work of Awesome Angelenos and civic organizations shaping the future of our region for the better

  • Setting an optimistic and ambitious roadmap for the region

  • Designing campaigns, hosting events and trainings, and driving digital communications to educate and empower Angelenos to take action on important issues impacting their future

  • Activating and mobilizing Angelenos to achieve a vision of Los Angeles that ensures prosperity for all residents


To help achieve our mission, LA2050 is seeking to add a communications and digital director to our team: someone driven, dynamic, and creative who is passionate about all things Los Angeles. We’re looking for someone with a knack for developing content that results in high engagement, cares about community and audience management, and is ready to help us take our communications and digital presence to the next level.


Roles and Responsibilities

Specifically, our communications and digital rockstar will be responsible for:

  • Producing creative traditional and new media campaigns from concept to completion

  • Implementing, quickly deriving lessons learned, and iterating on a content strategy focused on engagement and audience management and growth

  • Overseeing an integrated, cross-platform communications strategy that includes social media, website, and newsletter content

  • Sourcing, developing, and scheduling content across all LA2050 digital properties including the website, newsletter, and social media accounts

  • Implementing communications strategies that reach diverse audiences including the general public, advocacy and civic organizations, decision-makers, and the media

  • Participating in collaborative efforts to build, grow, and manage the LA2050 community using social media and other digital platforms

  • Using analytics, evaluation tools, audience insights, and trends to inform and assess our communications efforts online and offline

  • Setting key performance indicators, such as engagement, conversions, and audience growth, and measuring communications and digital efforts against those metrics

  • Managing vendors including designers and web developers

  • Expanding and solidifying LA2050’s brand and voice

  • Leading and/or managing an intern/junior staff to assist with:

    • Managing media, blogger, and partner outreach and relations

    • Writing articles, op-eds, and blog posts as appropriate

    • Communications tasks, such as developing and editing media materials (e.g., press releases), press outreach, and pitching and placing stories


How to know if you’re a great fit

  • Belief in conversion and engagement above all other metrics

  • A minimum of seven years of professional digital marketing, public relations, social media, communications experience, online community management, or demonstrated equivalent experience

  • Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations is preferred but not required

  • Strong background in digital content strategies and audience engagement

  • Expertise with digital advertising, including Google AdWords, Facebook Ads & Power Editor, Twitter

  • Photography and photo editing skills a plus

  • Familiarity with digital platforms and social media tools for engagement, activation, and participation

  • Interest in applying industry best practices for social good

  • Strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills

  • Detail-oriented and organized with an adaptable, entrepreneurial nature

  • Share a love of working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, high-impact environment

  • High energy, inquisitive nature, initiative-taking ability, sense of humor, and resourcefulness

  • Proven ability to generate workable and creative ideas, concepts, and techniques

  • Openness to experimenting with emerging digital and social media platforms
