Position Summary:

The Senior Development Associate will report to the Director of Development and serve as the administrator of the donor database supporting the Development Department. The position will support the planning and execution of – and providing administrative support for – donor relations and special events. The position will also engage in other departmental projects as needed and participate in organizational activities. Self-motivation, flexibility, attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to handle successfully competing priorities are essential to this position.

Overview:

Ensure that the Development Department has data and support necessary to meet fundraising goals for Catalyst California and expand the base of support for the racial justice movement.

Roles & responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Data Management & Database Administration: Optimize fundraising database (EveryAction) to meet the department and organization’s needs, including

• Achieve an advanced level of expertise in using EveryAction

• Continuously hone knowledge of current and newly released tools, functions, and features

• Innovate new ways to use data to advance fundraising efforts

• Utilize database consultants to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of EveryAction

• Serve as trainer and technical assistance support to Development, Communications, Finance, and other staff as they use the database tools/features

• Provide quality assurance on data entry as well as other uses of the database

• Create and maintain living documents of guidelines and protocols for database operations

Donor Relations & Events: Support donor relations, fundraising campaigns, and special events through

• Accurate and timely gift entry and acknowledgements

• Interface with donors and sponsors via phone or email to respond to inquiries or obtain information

• Utilize analytics to measure impact of campaigns and adjust data management and tactics accordingly

• Support events by tracking sponsorships and tickets, ensuring sponsor benefit fulfillment, and managing guest registration

• Providing accurate data reports to internal departments, such as Finance

• Maintain organized and accessible physical and digital assets for the department

Department Support: Provide support to all functions of the department, including proofreading, data entry, report generation, and training and technical assistance with the database.

Organizational Support: Participate in organization-wide activities, with the goal of creating and maintaining a culture of philanthropy among all staff members.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or 5-plus years of experience

• Demonstrated successful fundraising experience of at least three years

• Demonstrated successful experience organizing nonprofit special events of at least three years

• Experience supervising fundraising staff and/or volunteers

• Experience working with design, print, and mailing vendors

• Demonstrated experience working with fundraising database(s), ideally with EveryAction, to track donations and donors

• Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft 365, Asana, and Slack

• Demonstrated commitment to fundraising as a career/profession with desire to advance in the field

• Possess intermediate knowledge of fundraising principles and practices

• Excellent writing and editing skills on persuasive communications

• Excellent interpersonal/verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse people, and staff of all levels

• Demonstrated commitment to racial equity

• Discretion, commitment to confidentiality, and excellent judgment in handling sensitive individual and organizational information

• Excellent organization and planning skills with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks and a variety of demands

• Initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities

• Able to work in an effective and busy organization with constant demands and interruptions

• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems, specifically Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

• Demonstrated ability to work in a professional manner with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment and spirit of cooperation

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Salary

In the spirit of pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $73,500-$75,000. When hired by Catalyst California, the selected candidate’s final salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
