Founded in 2017, Safe Parking LA has evolved to become the largest safe parking program in Los Angeles and the only provider of safe lots exclusively focused on vehicular homelessness. We currently operate in the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, and West Los Angeles, including a program on the VA West Los Angeles campus.

The Development Coordinator is a vital member of the growing Safe Parking LA development team. We are seeking a team-oriented person who has strong interpersonal, creative, and organizational skills to help foster positive relationships with external stakeholders and help advance Safe Parking LA’s mission. Perfect for an early-career individual passionate about social change, this opportunity provides hands-on learning in all facets of non-profit fundraising, communications, marketing, and volunteer management with pathways to advance available through professional development, training, and increased responsibilities as merited.

*We are open to hiring a Development Manager, with expanded responsibilities and increased compensation, depending on the candidate's experience.

Roles & responsibilities

WHAT YOUR DAYS CONSIST OF

Fundraising (60%)

- Maintain an up-to-date grants calendar and assist with the preparation of grant deliverables, including proposal letters, applications, and reports.

- Support lead generation and prospecting efforts by assisting in the research and identification of potential donors, funders, sponsors, and partners. This includes utilizing prospecting tools such as DonorSearch.

- Assist with outreach to identified prospects including prospects for in-kind gifts, as assigned.

- Assist with implementing fundraising campaigns and strategies, such as coordinating multi-channel (print and digital) appeals and department events.

- Under the guidance of the Director of Development, coordinate the creation and maintenance of fundraising materials and collateral, such as the Impact Report, case for support, and one-sheets. This includes copy writing.

- Support the Executive Director and Director of Development’s stewardship efforts by assisting with the execution of meaningful touchpoints such as tours, dinners, appreciation mailings, intimate gatherings, and gifts of recognition.

- Attend networking and community events as directed by the Director of Development to increase professional network, foster organizational relationships, and enhance organizational visibility.

- Recruit, train, and supervise donation, fundraising, and department volunteers, as directed.

Communications (20%)

- Design, compose, and schedule posts on social media channels. Promote and maintain the organization’s social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, YouTube, TikTok), and a communications calendar.

- Source and organize assets and content (such as photos, videos, success stories, and quotes) for use in donor outreach and development materials.

- Produce email campaigns under the direction of the Director of Development, such as the general interest monthly newsletter, using our email management platform, Constant Contact.

- Promote subscribership to the organization’s email digest. Partner with the Donor Database Administrator to ensure subscriber list is current and constituent contact preferences are honored.

- Coordinate Safe Parking LA’s participation in Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. Support other awareness-building activities, as directed.

- Assist with special communications and media projects, as needed.

General Support (20%)

- Be a first line of contact for general inquiries for the department by providing a quick and service-oriented response to emails and phone calls. Support follow-up when necessary.

- In partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator, provide orientation and onboarding to community members interested in becoming volunteers and help to ensure a positive and productive volunteer experience, as needed.

- In partnership with the Donor Database Administrator, support the maintenance of updated constituent records and contact information to add details as they become known.

- Assist with gift processing as needed.

- Provide administrative support to the Director of Development – including copying, filing, ordering, organizing inventory, scheduling appointments – and work to ensure the smooth operation of the development department.

- Provide meeting preparation and notetaking support for board-level committees (External Affairs and Fund Development), as directed.

- Other duties within the development department as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of work experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or related fields required, including experience working with DonorPerfect or similar CRM software.

- At least one year of experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers preferred.

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (communications, nonprofit management) preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences.

- Demonstrated passion for addressing homelessness and working towards social change.

- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and experience writing policy-driven documents.

- Ability to work independently and to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, taking direction from the Director of Development

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable using databases and digital platforms.

- Able and willing to work flexible hours (early morning, evening, and weekend work on occasion as needed).

- Reliable transportation for moderate travel within the Los Angeles area

- Background check (Live Scan) required by funding and regulatory agency.

- COVID-19 vaccination and TB clearance are required by funding and regulatory agencies.
